Accommodation and Travel

Accommodation

All participants will stay at the same well-appointed Accra hotel for the first two nights of the program. Centrally located and within walking distance of the capital city’s prime cultural sites, this 4 star hotel features WiFi internet access, a bar, restaurant, outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, business centre, and a tennis court.

On Day 2 of the program we’ll travel to a coastal village. Here we’ll be based at a lovely African-style boutique hotel where each room has a balcony overlooking the ocean. The village’s breath-taking setting creates the perfect atmosphere for the creation of new work.

Travel and Visa Information

We suggest accepted participants book airline tickets as soon as possible. Participants are responsible for their own airfare to and from Ghana.

Currently, all visitors to Ghana are required to possess an entry visa. Though visas are available upon arrival in Ghana, in the interests of saving yourself a lot of time, we recommend you obtain a visa from a Ghanaian Embassy in your home country in advance of traveling to Ghana. Where Ghana has no Consular or Diplomatic representation, an application for Entry Visa may be made to the nearest British Diplomatic Mission or Consulate authorized by the Government of Ghana to act on its behalf.

IAWW staff will be available to assist participants with questions about the visa process before arrival in Ghana.

You must have a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of your expected departure from Ghana.

Health Concerns

All participants are required to submit proof of overseas medical insurance by June 1st. Please ask your insurance provider if you are covered under your current plan. If your plan does not extend to overseas coverage, your insurance provider should be able to recommend a solution. Alternatively, you may buy traveler’s insurance such as Medex.

We strongly suggest you take malaria prophylactics while in Ghana. Ask your physician for recommendations on which anti-malaria drugs will work best for you.

To enter Ghana yellow fever immunization is mandatory and all travelers to Ghana are required to have a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Other immunizations to consider getting are Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Tetanus/Diphtheria.

If you currently take prescription medications, be sure to bring enough to last for the duration of your stay in Ghana.
