The International Artists' And Writers' Workshops

What we do

The IAWW provides artists and writers an opportunity to study their craft in the most vibrant places on earth. Founded on the notion that a change of place is a surefire way to boost an artist's creative pace, our programs combine cultural immersion with formal study, emphasizing hands-on, experiential education. The IAWW is a truly universal educational institution.

s<empty>We believe context is intrinsic to any educational experience. By limiting the numbers of participants we maintain an intimate, intensive and supportive atmosphere. Our programs are devoted to bringing together artists from all over the world to improve their craft and exchange ideas and participate in the ongoing dialogue that is world culture. We think of the IAWW as an extended family of creative artists. We are delighted to welcome you into the IAWW family.

The IAWW faculty is comprised of the finest international artists who are also excellent teachers. Far from being a group of outsiders importing a conference to a distant land, the IAWW is largely staffed by people who live or have lived in the countries in which the workshops operate.

Join us in Ghana as we celebrate the nation’s rich cultural heritage.

Who participates?

Participants range from enthusiastic beginners to seasoned practitioners. Some people come from undergraduate and graduate programs, some arrive after careers in other fields: people of all ages and skill levels are welcome. While fluency in English is necessary, the key ingredients participants should possess are a passion and curiosity for literature, art, and the creative process and an abiding interest in the world.

IAWW faculty members are accessible to participants. Working with participants both in group sessions and one-on-one, teachers are personable and approachable; always the emphasis is on how best to advance the participant's artistic goals.
